The antibiotic used to treat prostatitis was the cefazolin (Flomax) and cefuroxime (Forteo). The antibiotic used to treat urinary tract infections was cefdinir (Cipro). The study was conducted in the hospital setting in an effort to increase awareness of both the clinical and laboratory aspects of the use of these drugs. It was established that these pharmacokinetic changes can be seen in all volunteers regardless of age or gender, and in a large number of patients with the following conditions: (1) heart failure, (2) angina, and (3) peripheral vascular disease. The study focused on the effects of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole on the pharmacokinetics of these drugs in healthy volunteers.
