Apotex, the antibiotic that is used to treat urinary tract infections, has been the subject of numerous clinical trials and is now the first agent used in the treatment of chronic prostatitis. The first of these trials was a review of a total of 11 studies of the antibiotic for the treatment of prostatitis. These trials included three of the seven antibiotics studied; two of the antibiotics used to treat urinary tract infections, and one of the antibiotics used to treat bacterial prostatitis.

In addition to the trials of the antibiotic for the treatment of prostatitis, several other trials have also been published in which the antibiotic was used as an add-on therapy to other treatment options. These trials include the following:

  • Infection of the prostate and urethra
  • Infection of the bladder and urethra
  • Infection of the kidneys
  • Infection of the urinary tract
  • Infection of the bladder

The first of the seven trials involved a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in which the antibiotic used was bactrim DS (amoxicillin, ceftriaxone). The trial was conducted in three clinical centers in the United States and the results showed that bactrim DS was an effective therapy for prostatitis in patients with urinary tract infections and that it was generally well tolerated. The third of the studies included three randomized, placebo-controlled trials in which the antibiotic was used as an add-on therapy to other treatment options.

The antibiotic used to treat prostatitis was the cefazolin (Flomax) and cefuroxime (Forteo). The antibiotic used to treat urinary tract infections was cefdinir (Cipro). The antibiotic used to treat bacterial prostatitis was clindamycin (Bactrim), which is used to treat prostatitis in patients who have urinary tract infections.

In a second trial in which the antibiotic was used to treat urinary tract infections in patients with prostatitis, the antibiotic was used as an add-on therapy to other treatment options. In this trial, the antibiotic was used as a treatment for the first time in patients with urinary tract infections. The antibiotic was used as an add-on therapy to other treatment options.

Another study of bactrim DS in the treatment of prostatitis was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, in which a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was done in which patients with prostatitis were treated with bactrim DS or cefdinir. The study showed that bactrim DS was an effective antibiotic for the treatment of prostatitis in patients with urinary tract infections, but it was not as effective as other antibiotics.

SUMMARY: BACTRIM, a combination of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole, is a medication commonly prescribed to treat patients with the following conditions: heart failure, angina (chest pain), and peripheral vascular disease (PV). Although it can be administered either as a daily oral medication or intramuscularly, there are several potential side effects to be aware of. This report explores the pharmacokinetics of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole in healthy volunteers and how these effects compare with those observed in patients with the following conditions: (1) heart failure, (2) angina, and (3) peripheral vascular disease. The study was conducted in the hospital setting in an effort to increase awareness of both the clinical and laboratory aspects of the use of these drugs. It was established that these pharmacokinetic changes can be seen in all volunteers regardless of age or gender, and in a large number of patients with the following conditions: (1) heart failure, (2) angina, and (3) peripheral vascular disease. The study focused on the effects of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole on the pharmacokinetics of these drugs in healthy volunteers.
